From June 19th to 25th, the 2023 Halle Open, which is one of the most prestigious ATP 500 tournaments will be played.
The tournament, also referred to as the Terra Wortmann Open, was won 10 times in the past by Roger Federer. That's also one of the reasons why the Swiss Maestro will be honoured with a 'Roger Federer Day' in 2023. But the eyes of the fans will be mostly on the main draw action as the event promises a lot of interesting matchups.
As only one of two ATP 500 grass-court tournaments, it offers a great chance to players to prepare ahead of Wimbledon, and many of them won't miss out on it. Casper Ruud withdrew from the tournament, but except for the Norwegian, all top stars are set to compete in Halle.
The defending champion is the sixth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz, who will start against one of the qualifiers, but defending his 500 points and almost half a million in prize money won't be so easy for the Pole this year.
The top seed is Daniil Medvedev, and the Russian will also start against one of the qualifiers. On the other hand, the second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was recently part of history as he witnessed the 600th win of Richard Gasquet, will start against another Frenchman, Gregoire Barrere.
The French veteran Gasquet will be present also in Halle, and he found himself in probably the most star-studded part of the draw. The Frenchman will start the tournament against the fourth-seeded Jannik Sinner, with the winner of the match taking on Lorenzo Sonego or Nick Kyrgios, who asked his fans for patience after the first match back.
Felix Auger-Aliassime will also make an appearance at the tournament, as the fifth seed, and his first-round match will be a challenging one too. The Canadian will play against wild card Dominic Thiem, and in the second round, he may set up an all-Canadian match with Denis Shapovalov, who will play against Lloyd Harris.
Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev will play also in Halle with the Russian playing against Yibing Wu in the first round as the third seed, while the German is unseeded and will have to face the eighth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut.
