Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas have previously discussed the possibility of playing mixed doubles in a Grand Slam, and it will now happen at the 2024 Roland Garros.
The mixed doubles draw for this year's clay-court Grand Slam was revealed on Monday in which the wild card pair of Badosa and Tsitsipas learned their first-round opponents and their projected draw.
They will play the team of Ena Shibahara, a former WTA World No. 4 in doubles, and American Nathaniel Lammons, who is ranked 22nd in doubles on the ATP Tour.
Badosa ranked 139 in the WTA rankings, and ATP star Tsitsipas began dating in May 2023. Their relationship went public when the Spaniard was in attendance, cheering for the Greek at last year's French Open.
They soon made their love affair official, creating a joint Instagram page popularly known as "Tsitsidosa" and traveling to tennis tournaments as a couple. They were due to play in mixed doubles at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, but Badosa withdrew because of a back injury.
It proved a much more serious setback for the former World No. 2, who did not play for the remainder of last season after retiring in her second-round match against Marta Kostyuk at SW19. When Badosa returned late in 2023, they played together at the World Tennis League exhibition in the UAE.
Tsitsipas ruled out from partnering Badosa for mixed doubles at the 2024 Australian Open because of a clash of interest with singles at the same tournament. But they will go against the grain and team up at the French Open in their first official event on tour.
The decision comes against the backdrop of their reunion as dating partners. In early May, Badosa announced that they "amicably parted ways," only for Tsitsipas to confirm their reunion a few weeks later.
And ahead of her first-round match against Katie Boulter in Paris, Badosa has reaffirmed Tsitsipas' claim that they are back together, although she reiterated that they wanted a low-key relationship without giving further details.
