Stefanos Tsitsipas wants to play with Paula Badosa often, but focusing on the singles is his main priority.
Tennis is a complicated sport and a never-ending one. Players need to improve constantly, otherwise, they are in danger of being left behind, and nobody knows that better than tennis players.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has already seen himself being overtaken by some young players like Carlos Alcaraz, so he needs to step up. The focus in 2024 must be on his singles career because he's been falling behind recently.
On the other hand, he would like to play more mixed doubles with Paula Badosa as quite a few events will give him a chance to do so. All Grand Slam tournaments have a mixed doubles event, presenting them with a chance to compete together.
It's a tough call for him, as he explained to The Guardian in a recent interview. On the one hand, he wants to play with Badosa, but on the other hand, he must focus on his singles, so it's kind of a clash of interests for him because he wants to play doubles with his brother Petros as well.
It’s a difficult decision because I really want to play with her. But my main priority is singles and it’s important to economise my energy during these hopefully deep runs. I am already committed to playing doubles with my brother [Petros]. So three events would be too demanding.
Playing with his brother is apparently his favorite thing, and he enjoyed doing so last year in Antwerp. They won the trophy, and Tsitsipas would want more of that in the future. Balancing all of these wishes is very hard because he can't play so many matches; it wouldn't be good.
Luckily, though, Badosa is a primarily singles player as well, so she will likely like to focus on that as well, making their mixed doubles less likely, and according to the latest comments, it won't be happening at the 2024 Australian Open.
