Novak Djokovic's chances of being fit and ready for his Australian Open defence look to be very good.
One former tennis legend believes that Djokovic has shown he can win in Melbourne even with an injury. However, the Serbian's chances will certainly be much greater if he enters the opening Grand Slam of the year fully fit.
Djokovic's injury scare came at his opening tournament of the new season at the United Cup, where he was representing Team Serbia in their quarterfinal tie against the hosts Team Australia.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion was playing Alex de Minaur when the issue flared up. Djokovic received medical attention but was still able to complete the match, going on to lose in straight sets.
Despite finishing the contest, there were still concerns about the problem, with the Australian Open so close. However, Djokovic is hopeful of being ready for the Grand Slam.
"I think I'll be okay, to be honest, but it did have quite an impact, particularly on the forehand and serve."
Djokovic is someone who knows and understands his body well. His instinct was that he would be okay for the Australian Open, and now the latest update has indicated that the seven-time Wimbledon champion is correct.
The 10-time Australian Open champion is set to be on court practicing on Tuesday. This will be a public session, with fans sure to flock to the court to see the Serbian legend in action.
It seems that a few days' rest is what Djokovic needed. The 36-year-old feeling comfortable about practicing before the public days before the tournament starting is a great sign.
John McEnroe thinks facing rowdy crowds is Djokovic's biggest strength, but the fans will surely be grateful to see him in action again on Tuesday.
