The 2022 US Open will start on Monday, August 29th as the first day of the event features some very interesting matches.
There action on the Arthur Ashe Stadium will start with a match between Stefan Kozlov and Daniil Medvedev, who is defending the title. But there will be many more interesting names in action, including Serena Williams, Nick Kyrgios and 2020 US Open champion, Dominic Thiem.
Both players were the most successful at the last Grand Slam of the season. The Spaniard reached two semifinals, in 2017 and 2020 and Dominic Thiem is the 2020 champion. Their first-round match will take place on Court 17 despite many fans being disappointed by that.
Dominic Thiem and Pablo Carreno-Busta met numerous times before but the Austrian lost only once in the final of a Challenger tournament in Italy.
The opening match on Court 12 will feature former world no. 14 and 2018 Australian Open semifinalist, Kyle Edmund. The Brit is making a comeback and in the first round, he will take on the fifth-seeded Casper Ruud.
The 2021 US Open champion, Daniil Medvedev will open the action on the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Russian will take on Stefan Kozlov who lost already 8 matches in a row.
The two met in the qualifying of the 2016 Wimbledon and it was Daniil Medvedev who triumphed comfortably in two sets. He's expected to win also in the first round match in the Flushing Meadows to kick-off his title defence.
The last match on the Arthur Ashe Stadium will be one of the most interesting first-round matchups. Two very good friends and partners in doubles, Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis will fight for a spot in the second round.
The Aussies met twice before on the Challenger Tour, with the 2022 Wimbledon finalist winning both matches. Although, Nick Kyrgios is a clear favourite in the match, it can be a difficult one for him since he faces a very good friend.
Match that can be the last in Serena Williams' career. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is saying her goodbye to tennis after the 2022 US Open and she will be hoping that it won't be in the first round.
The American will take on world no.80, Danka Kovinic who already lost 5 matches in a row without losing a set and so it's a playable opponent for Serena Williams.
