The 2023 Washington Citi Open is set to welcome both ATP & WTA Tours this year with a new event and more prize money.

The tournament in Washington is one of the most popular events and with a new sponsorship because of a merger with another event, it can become only more popular. The official name for this year's edition is the 2023 Mubadala Citi DC Open, but the event is often referred to as the Washington Open.

It was first held back in 1969, and since then, many greats won the event, including the likes of Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, and Stefan Edberg. Only recently, also women's tournament has been added, and the last time it was held, Liudmila Samsonova lifted the trophy.

In 2023, Nick Kyrgios will be the defending champion in the men's event after winning both singles and doubles titles last year. On the ATP entry list, the Australian is joined by the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

But also, the women's event promises to be a great spectacle. Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Caroline Garcia, and Maria Sakkari are all on the WTA entry list, but the number of title contenders will be high with the cut-off for the tournament being around the 40th place.

While both tournaments are 500 categories, there will be a difference in the prize money distributed. While men will compete for $2,013,940 in total, overall prize money distributed at the women's event equals to $780,637.

The points distribution is also different for both events, as the men's champion will get 500 ATP points and $353,445, while the women's winner will be rewarded with 470 WTA points and $120,150.
