Ons Jabeur really struggled to fight her tears after what she marked as 'the most painful loss' of her career in the 2023 Wimbledon final.
Without a doubt, the Tunisian is the fan favourite on the WTA Tour and she's also one of the most liked players in the locker room. Almost everyone loves Jabeur and that includes whole continent of Africa that she was playing for.
The Tunisian could become the first African and Arab woman to win a Grand Slam title, and at the 2023 Wimbledon, she came very close to it again, but just not close enough as she lost in the final to Marketa Vondrousova.
On her way to the final, Jabeur ended Elena Rybakina's dream of defending the title, and she also ended Aryna Sabalenka's dream of reaching the World No. 1 spot, however, in the final, her dream was shattered by the Czech player.
The now three-time Grand Slam finalist was visibly upset after the loss, and as she collected the runner-up trophy, Jabeur struggled to fight her tears, showing the world how much the match meant to her.
"I will try to speak because this is very, very tough, but I'm going to look ugly in the photos, so it's not going to help. I think this is the most painful loss of my career. It's going to be a tough day for me today, but I'm not gonna give up, and I'm gonna come back stronger and win a Grand Slam one day."
Although she came very close to winning the trophy twice, and ultimately failed, Wimbledon means a lot for Jabeur, who promised her team that they are going to make that one last step one day.
"It's an amazing tournament for me, I wish I could continue until the end. I want to thank my team for always believing in me, and, we're going to make it one day, I promise you."
