Iga Swiatek's winning run continued with a comfortable victory against Camila Giorgi at the Miami Open.
The world No. 1 came into this match on the back of winning the title in Indian Wells. Despite this, Swiatek was not feeling the pressure of completing the Sunshine Double if she wins the title in Miami.
Swiatek will undoubtedly be pleased that the conditions in Miami are slow, like in Indian Wells. This suits her game perfectly, with Swiatek's dominance on slow courts recently being compared to Rafael Nadal.
Her opponent Giorgi has not had a great 12 months. The former Wimbledon quarterfinalist's ranking has dropped a lot. However, her powerful brand of tennis can still be dangerous if she finds her best level.
Unfortunately, Giorgi made a terrible start to the match. The Italian began the contest with four double faults to hand an early break to Swiatek, who is the worst player in the sport to give an early advantage to.
Swiatek's high level shone through the entire opening set after that. The only danger she faced was when Giorgi led 0-40 in one of her service games but some smart serving got her out of trouble.
Giorgi only managed to claim one game in the first set and Swiatek took it 6-1. The Pole has never lost a WTA 1000 match after winning the opening set, meaning Giorgi needed a miracle.
That miracle came close to happening for the Italian. She did hold her first service game to love in the second set and looked to be in a slightly better place to challenge Swiatek at that stage.
Yet, that was as good as it got for Giorgi. Swiatek's formidable returning was even better than the previous set. Without the ability to get free points on her serve, it was impossible for Giorgi to come close to beating Swiatek.
The world No. 1 cruised to a 6-1 6-1 victory after yet another superb performance. In this form, it is going to need a special effort to stop her from completing the sunshine double.
