'No Need To Think About It': Swiatek Avoids Pressure Of Completing Sunshine Double

by Zachary Wimer

Iga Swiatek won the Sunshine Double two years ago, but she's not really thinking about doing it again because it's a long road ahead.

The Polish player arrived in Miami after comfortably winning the 2024 Indian Wells Open, the second time she had won that WTA 1000 event. By doing so, she joined an elite group of players who were able to do just that, and now she hopes to add another Miami Open to her tally.

She won it two years ago as part of her iconic 37-match winning streak, during which she won the Sunshine Double. She's not thinking about doing it this year, even though there is a pretty decent chance that she might.

Asked by the media about it, Swiatek dismissed thinking about it because she hadn't even played a match in Miami yet. In fact, she hadn't even practiced in Miami yet, so it didn't really make sense to think about winning the trophy.

"I don't think we should talk about if's. I do everything step by step as usual. No need for me to like think about already winning the trophy cause I haven't even practiced here."

She would love to do it because it would be a dream come true. It's not easy, and Swiatek kind of feels like she overachieved two years ago when she did it.

It would be a bit different feeling if she did it this time around. She's not going to unnecessarily add pressure into the whole mix by declaring herself a favorite.

"I still have many matches to play so let's see how it's gonna go. Obviously it would be a dream come true. It's not an easy task. I felt like I overachieved two years ago so this time I'm just going to do everything as usual see how it goes"
