Naomi Osaka Confirms Her First Grass-Court Tournament Of 2024

Naomi Osaka isn't known as the best grass tennis player, but she's hoping to put together some good showings this year.

Osaka has played the least amount of tennis on grass in her career. She has only 32 matches on the surface in her career, which is three times less than on clay, which is another surface she doesn't particularly like.

It's interesting because she has all the tools to really do well on the surface. The serve is a major weapon for Osaka, and it's the crucial shot on grass. She also has a lot of power, which is generally quite useful on grass.

The former world no. 1 needs a lot of playing experience on the surface if she hopes to do better than she did so far. Her best result at Wimbledon ever is the third round, and she can certainly do much better there.

It's a surface that requires experience to do well, so towards that goal, Osaka has already signed up for her first grass event of the 2024 season. The Berlin Open announced that the Japanese player will be in the German capital in the summer.

The event will be played in June, and it's going to be her first time there. She has never been to Berlin before, so this will be a nice chance for her to experience the European city that will be hosting the 2024 Laver Cup as well.

There is plenty of tennis coming up in Berlin this year, and the WTA 500 tournament will be one of those. Fans are going to see many great ATP players, such as Carlos Alcaraz, but also WTA stars like Naomi Osaka, who is going to return to the grass for the first time in five years.

The last time she played in a grass event was in 2019, and it's been a long time since then. A lot of things have changed on the WTA Tour as well.
