Coco Gauff's kit for the 2024 Australian Open was released recently, and it's fair to say that fans love it.
One of the major talking points in the build-up to any Grand Slam tournament revolves around players' outfits as each clothing company looks to snare significant market share.
Tennis fans always take a keen interest in what their favorite players will wear, and nothing is as mildly suspenseful as the start of the new year when speculation is rife on the rumored outfits players are expected to don Down Under.
Coco Gauff, one of the tournament favorites at this year's Australian Open, was recently handed a glittering outfit straight from New Balance's factory. The kit comes in pairs, one in a yellow top and skirt with blue accents and the other reciprocating the same colors.
One curious fan falsely claimed that it was inspired by Serena Williams' canary-yellow crop top, which she wore with a matching pleated skirt en route to a runner-up finish at the 2016 Australian Open. Gauff, for a second, almost believed the viral tweet but quickly debunked it.
However, the 19-year-old did praise her childhood idol, Serena, calling her a "fashion queen" in light of the 23-time Grand Slam champion's unique choice of outfits during her playing career. Gauff certainly appears to be the heir apparent to that mantle, at least on a tennis court.
Fans have since shared their reactions to Gauff's kits, which have to be said have been generally positive. Most of them are excited to see the 2023 US Open champion glide on the Melbourne courts with a glittering outfit fitting her star persona.
One fan wrote, "Wow, this is such a Slam-winning kit," clearly in awe of the style and colors, while another user felt that it complemented the Australian Open courts, "That yellow is going to look SO good against the courts in Melbourne."
Another fan was madly in love with both kits, writing, "This is such a sick fit. I love it. Kind of hard to explain, but there’s like a series finale sense to it - not for the idea that something’s ending, but like the summation of a concept? Navy blue one in the next tweet is good too."
One fan felt even sportswear giant Nike is unlikely to manufacture an outfit in equal measure for Naomi Osaka, who is expected to play her first Grand Slam tournament since 2022, "Whatever Nike gonna put on Naomi will not defeat this LOOK coz this one."
"Is it okay to wear this even though ive never played a game of tennis is my life," was the response from a presumably Coco Gauff fan. And another one declared, "She’s gonna look SO good! New Balance are killing it."
