Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is rising in the WTA Rankings again as she will try to prove her qualities at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Since she didn't have a ranking high enough at the entry deadline, Naomi Osaka joined the 2022 Madrid Open field as a wild card. When taking some time to focus on herself during 2021 and 2022, Osaka discovered many techniques that helped her become a better player, including practicing a left-handed forehand.

Osaka has lifted a Grand Slam trophy every year from 2018 to 2021, and in 2022, she has three more Grand Slam tournaments to keep this streak going. Ahead of the 2022 Madrid Open, she spoke to the press also about techniques that should help her achieve this goal.

"I’ve actually been warming up kind of left-handed but I don’t think that’s a skill that’s going to show itself anytime soon. It’s just like for technical reasons."

"If I hit left-handed forehands, it’s easier to hit a backhand if that makes sense. I know that every kid growing up playing tennis in the world has pretended to be Nadal at least once."

For Osaka, tennis is more than just about winning matches. The Japanese player also wants to have fun, not just on the tennis court, but also off of it.

That's what she declared important ahead of the 2022 Madrid Open and how she likes to approach her career. She also has ambitious goals as she wants to reach at least the semifinals of the event.

"I always say I want to have a good time, which is true, even off the court I want to have a good time. Of course winning matches and leading up into the French, I want to get to the semis of either here or Rome, hopefully win. But I’m going to set a little goal first."
