Marta Kostyuk has secured the services of Iga Swiatek's former physical trainer, Jolanta Rusin-Krzepota, ahead of the new season, which will kick off next weekend.
Known by her first name, Jola, she hails from Poland and worked with the WTA World No. 1 for approximately four years until the end of the 2019 US Open. Swiatek shared the announcement of their parting ways on social media at the time, calling it "one of the saddest moments" of her career.
Jola becomes the second Pole in Kostyuk's coaching entourage. In October, Kostyuk announced that she is working with Sandra Zaniewska, a former WTA pro who has previously coached Petra Martic. She has already experienced an upturn in fortunes in her results.
Kostyuk confirmed Jola's appointment through her Instagram account with a post of the two working on several fitness routines in Monte Carlo. Their partnership appears to have had an immediate impact, as Kostyuk shared a photo of herself completely exhausted after training.
"2024 ready!!! Love my team @sandrazaniewska @jolarusin5736 "Warmed up? Yeah, dead."— Kostyuk confirmed the appointment of Jola as her new conditioning coach
Kostyuk, who won her first WTA title in Austin last spring, broke the world's Top 40 before the end of 2023. The Ukrainian is now pulling the strings behind the scenes by revitalizing her coaching setup and looking to work with some of the sharpest minds in tennis.
The 21-year-old's progress last season was striking. After going 0-13 against the Top 10 players in her young career, Kostyuk has managed to address that slide by winning three of her last four matches against that caliber of opposition.
Currently sitting at World No. 39 in the rankings, Kostyuk will kick off her 2024 campaign in Brisbane - a WTA 500 event that boasts six of the world's Top 20 players - before heading to Melbourne to compete in the first Grand Slam tournament of next season.
