Coco Gauff and her apparel sponsor, New Balance, are taking their sneakers game to a new level at this year's Roland Garros.
With a week until the start of the tournament, Gauff's new colorway of her signature shoe, Coco CG1, which she will wear at the clay Grand Slam, has been revealed.
Gauff is one of New Balance's prized assets, having signed a long-term contract extension two years ago. She has collaborated with the Boston-based brand to create customized shoes for almost every occasion, including ones that can be worn away from tennis courts.
Although the official launch is set for May 24th, the first pictures of Gauff's latest shoes have hit the internet, and it has to be said they are stunning. The special-edition “Grey Days” CG1 will be Gauff's choice of wear at the French Open.
As the name implies, the shoes are emboldened with grey suede and a sand-colored sole. The upper heel contains the New Balance logo, which is accentuated in white.
The CG1's latest colorway pays homage to the company's yearly celebration of its heritage color. A dedicated online shop, "The Grey Shop," has been set up for fans to select shoes and apparel that draw inspiration from the brand's rich history.
"The color grey was a choice made in the service of building a superior running shoe. Today, grey continues to embody timeless quality in every form."
Gauff will bid to win her second Grand Slam at the French Open. She will also have a shot at becoming the new World No. 2, which would be a career-high.
The US Open champion has compiled a 7-3 record in singles on clay so far, reaching the semifinal of the Italian Open in her most recent tournament. However, she went one round better in doubles at the same event while partnering Erin Routliffe.
