Coco Gauff vs Yue Yuan: 2024 Indian Wells Open - Preview & Prediction

Coco Gauff will take on Yue Yuan in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Indian Wells Open, with the winner making the final four.

The world no. 49 is having the run of her life at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, which means that she'll reach her new career-high in the WTA Rankings and make a Top 40 breakthrough.

On her way to the quarter-finals, the Chinese player overcame the likes of the Australian Open finalist Qinwen Zheng, as well as the eleventh-seeded Daria Kasatkina.

On the other hand, Gauff struggled in the opening round against Clara Burel, and while her second match against Lucia Bronzetti was better, it was only against Elise Mertens that the American showed her qualities.

Head-to-head:

Gauff is now not a teenager anymore, turning 20 on the same day as she outplayed the Belgian player, and while Yuan is 25 already, she didn't spend a lot of time on the WTA Tour.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the two have never met before, but experience with the quarter-finals on this stage certainly speaks for the 20-year-old player.

Gauff already has a Grand Slam in her pocket, and also a WTA 1000 trophy, and both of those were won on the home soil. She will now want to add another one, but Yuan will resist.

Prediction:

Still, the Chinese player shouldn't really stand a chance as the home crowd will stand behind their player, and Gauff's first win as a 20-year-old showed that despite a slight dip in form recently, her level has not disappeared.

Therefore, the third seed at the tournament should be able to comfortably win this match, most likely in straight sets.

Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in two sets.
