it’s official! coco is playing mixed with jack 🧦 at wimbledon!!!
Coco Gauff recently inquired about any ATP players who would be willing to partner her in mixed doubles at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
Gauff confirmed that she won't be competing in the women's doubles as she wanted to explore and try mixed doubles. And it looks like he has got her answer. She said at the time that she had some options and even tabled the description of her ideal partner.
She was initially "scared" to inquire from the players directly, so she put out an open invitation on Twitter to see who would be interested. And because she was not losing points in the WTA doubles rankings, this was the "perfect" time to take a break and play mixed doubles.
"I said I wanted to try mixed because I knew I didn’t want to do all three, so this is the time. here’s no points at Wimbledon, so it wasn’t like I was going to lose any doubles points in the Race for the WTA Finals, so this was the perfect time for mixed."
"The reason why I put it on Twitter was, honestly, I didn’t know who to ask, and I’m honestly scared of rejection. I didn’t want to ask somebody and get rejected, so I was just seeing who responded. It’s been a success; I haven’t found a partner yet, but I have some options and now I’m just trying to decide who!"
A fan asked the young American about the identity of her mixed doubles partner for Wimbledon, and she hinted at it by admitting that his last name is the same as a clothing item. This created quite a buzz, as Gauff got the blessing from the same fan for doing well in the tournament.
It turns out the player is Jack Sock, a former top-10 player who once won an ATP Masters in Paris-Bercy. But he's suffered a big fall from grace in recent years because of injuries.
It has been an unfortunate turn of events, but he's been grinding hard in the past years to get back to his level from a couple of years ago. It's going fairly well so far.
