Frances Tiafoe avoided injury or causing one to a ball boy after colliding during an exhibition match at the Hurlingham Classic.
Tiafoe was playing World No. 7 and Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz in what was expected to be an eye-catching affair between two layers who knew how to entertain the crowd.
Alcaraz, with his finesse and power, can thrill any tennis fan wherever he goes, while Tiafoe is more of a flamboyant character, not just with his tennis skillset but also with his personality.
The two men were getting the final reps before Wimbledon began in Hurlingham, which has traditionally hosted several top ATP stars to compete in a series of exhibition matches before the main event begins at SW19.
Tiafoe was playing in his third match on grass this year after disappointing first-round exits in Queen's and Eastbourne. Alcaraz, meanwhile, withdrew from the Cinch Championships because of injury and was looking to get some minutes on grass.
In the first set, Tiafoe dominated and was able to fend off multiple break points on his own serve. He would break Alcaraz twice to win the set 6-4. And it was in the last game of the first set when a really intriguing situation occurred.
After a stop volley from the Spaniard, Tiafoe ran to retrieve the ball. But he came at such a high speed that he could not control himself anymore, and with the grass being so slick, he collided with the ball kid stationed just near the net.
No one got injured, and everyone had a good laugh. It appeared that the American might have done it also to entertain the audience. For a brief moment, Alcaraz tried to go and check on his opponent but realized it wasn't anything serious.
Tiafoe went on to win the match in straight sets, finishing the second set 6-2.
