Women's tennis makes its annual one-time pitstop on the South American clay for the 2024 Bogota Open in Colombia.
While this WTA 250 tournament has always offered a window of opportunity for unheralded women to showcase their talent and win a trophy, it has been dominated by German veteran Tatjana Maria in each of the past two editions.
The mother of two will look to make it a hat trick on her 11th trip to Colombia's capital. The entry list for this year's tournament is known, and Maria faces a tough challenge to win again.
Gritty players like Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo will be hard to overcome on clay. American rising star Peyton Stearns was a finalist last year and will return a more improved player this April.
The same applies to Russian teenager Diana Shnaider, who is in the Top 100 and a WTA champion. Bernarda Pera and Nadia Podoroska are clay-court threats.
2021 champion Camila Osorio will fly the Colombian flag at this tournament but will not be seeded. Former Roland Garros semifinalist Tamara Zidansek is also looking to get her career back on track.
In terms of prize money, players can look forward to a purse of $267,082, which is the highest in the history of the Bogota Open and the standard for tournaments in this category.
Because of that, players will notice prize money increase in every round of the competition compared to their last trip to Bogota. The champion will take home $35,250 and will add 250 points to their name in the rankings.
The runner-up will earn $20,830, which has been topped up by roughly $600 from last year when Peyton Stearns received her paycheck. Moreover, the beaten finalist will add 163 points.
Each semifinalist in Bogota will earn $11,610 and receive 98 points. Those who fall in the quarterfinals will pocket $6,608, along with 54 ranking points.
Players who win at least one main draw match will be assured of a $4,040 payday. You can view the complete breakdown of prize money for the 2024 Bogota Open below.
