The 2024 Upper Austria Open Linz has been upgraded to become part of the WTA 500 category, and the entry list for the event has been released.
Running from January 29th to February 4th, it will be the only women's tour-level event held on Austrian soil, and tournament organizers have completed all the relevant paperwork to bring together one of the most talented caravans to Upper Austria.
There will be a record prize money for the tournament amounting to $922,573, which will be distributed to all players participating in the event. As many as 14 players ranked in the world's Top 50 will play in Linz, showing the vast depth of the field.
No player has successfully defended the Linz Open title since 2001. That means reigning champion Anastasia Potapova faces a tall order to repeat her exploits from 12 months ago when she sensationally upstaged every player.
The top seed, however, will be Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, who lost to Potapova in the semifinal stage last year. The Czech aims to get her campaign rolling after a subpar start to 2024.
Vondrousova is joined by Ekaterina Alexandrova, who is the second seed and last year's quarterfinalist Donna Vekic. The Ukrainian duo of Elina Svitolina and Anhelina Kalinina will also join the fray. But whether former World No. 3 Svitolina makes the trip is far from certain after progressing into the second week of the Australian Open.
Last year's finalist, Petra Martic, will target to go one better this year. And there is plenty of Italian presence in the entry list with no fewer than four players. The chief among them is Camila Giorgi, who has reached two finals in Linz in the past and won the 2018 edition.
Three players will be offered wild cards, one of whom is confirmed to be Austria's Sinja Kraus. At least six players will enter the main draw by qualifying on the weekend preceding the start of the tournament. Be sure to check the complete entry list for the 2024 Austria Linz Open below.
