The 2024 Adelaide International is the last WTA 500 tournament before the first major of the season, held from January 8th to 13th, 2024.
As the last so-called "warm-up tournament," the entry list for Adelaide International includes all the top names, with the initial cut-off being already 28th place in the WTA Rankings.
Last year, there were two tournaments held at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre in Adelaide, Australia. Aryna Sabalenka won the first one, and Belinda Bencic triumphed in the second tournament, but neither of them will come in 2024.
On the other hand, it will be Elena Rybakina, who later lost to Sabalenka in the Australian Open final, who will be the leading player at the tournament, and speaking ahead of the event on the tournament's official website, the Kazakhstani player was happy to lead the entry list.
"I’m looking forward to returning to Adelaide. As players we have everything we need in close proximity to the venue, making it easy to compete. Adelaide as a city knows how to make us feel welcome and bring out our best tennis."
Joining her will be a very strong field of players. Always very solid Jessica Pegula will also play in Adelaide, and so will the 2023 Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova, and the 2023 Roland Garros finalist, Karolina Muchova.
Barbora Krejcikova, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Madison Keys also appear in the talented field of players, and fans will be certainly looking forward to seeing two wild card recipients.
Angelique Kerber is coming back from pregnancy, and after a long injury lay-off, Ajla Tomljanovic will also compete in Adelaide, as both players received a wild card.
