The Abu Dhabi Open will be part of the women's calendar in 2024, and a record prize money for the tournament will be up for grabs.
This WTA 500 event was first staged in 2021 but not held in 2022 before it eventually became a staple from last season. In 2024, several leading WTA players will headline the event and compete for a tournament prize money of $922,573.
This is roughly an 18% increase from last year's staging and significantly higher than the inaugural event three years ago. Tunisia's Ons Jabeur will be the main star attraction for the local fans, who did not get the chance to watch her in action in 2023 due to injury.
But Jabeur will still encounter competition from top seed Elena Rybakina, who has already captured a WTA 500 title to kick off the new season. Ten of the world's Top 20 players will make the trip to the United Arab Emirates to play in one of half of the Middle East Swing.
Defending champion Belinda Bencic won't return as she is currently on maternity leave. But last year's runner-up, Liudmila Samsonova, will look to bounce back from those missed championship points. Jelena Ostapenko, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Caroline Garcia will add firepower to the draw.
The record prize money for this tournament will be distributed as follows. The champion will earn $142,000, which is an addition of nearly $20,000 from when Bencic won the title in 2023. Moreover, the full 500 ranking points will be added to their name.
The runner-up will make $87,655 and 325 points. Semifinalists will also make handsome returns. Those two players will each pocket $51,205 and 195 ranking points. Quarterfinalists pick up 108 points, and their paycheck amounting to $24,200.
Players must win at least two matches to reach the last eight stage. Those who stumble in the second round will be rewarded 60 points and $13,170. You can view the complete breakdown of prize money for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Open below.
