Ons Jabeur was excited about a Middle Eastern reunion with fans in Abu Dhabi and Doha but that won't be happening.
In a social media post, the Tunisian confirmed she is pulling out of both events due to a minor surgery that was necessary for her to return to her best tennis. Jabeur was dealing with a minor back injury leading up to the Australian Open but it's unclear whether this procedure is related to that.
She didn't disclose the nature of her injury or the time of her return but it's speculated to be for the Sunshine Double in March. She did promise to return to the Gulf in the future.
In order to take care of my health situation, my medical team has decided that I need to get a minor surgery in order to be able to be back on the courts and perform well. I will have to retire (withdraw) from Doha and Dubai, and this is breaking my heart. I would like to say sorry to all the fans in the Middle East that waited for this reunion. I promise I will come back to you stronger and healthy.
