Novak Djokovic's PTPA held a meeting in Melbourne with many players attending, and the contents of the meeting now known.
Djokovic and his good friend, Vasek Pospisil, joined forces to form an alternate player's body that would try to improve the conditions for the players competing on both the ATP and the WTA Tour.
It wasn't warmly welcomed generally by current governing bodies, but several prominent players spoke out in favor of it and pledged to join. Player representation is the core belief Djokovic wants to build his organization on.
Now, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) held a meeting in Melbourne, where the season's first Grand Slam was held, and multiple players spoke at the event, including the Serbian.
This is the first time in the history of tennis that we will have 100% player-only representation in our organization.
Vasek Pospisil also spoke about the PTPA, as we also got to know some other players in the association, such as Paula Badosa, Hubert Hurkacz, Ons Jabeur, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, John Isner, and Saisai Zheng.
"Having a players’ association in tennis is just as important, if not more important than some of the other sports and every other sport has benefited tremendously. Day 1 of hopefully, you know, a turning point for the history of our sport."
For the association, it will be now important to get as many players as possible on their side, as having an alternative body that represents tennis players may only be beneficial for the players.
It's expected that the ATP and the WTA won't be the biggest fans of this association, as they have their own players' councils, but the creation of this association only shows that players probably don't feel represented enough, as they had a need to create another organization.
