The 2023 Cleveland Open is played the week before the US Open, and the entry list features some interesting names.
Running from August 20th to 26th, 2023, the WTA 250 tournament in Cleveland, also called the Tennis in the Land, is the last tournament before the season's last major.
Last year, Liudmila Samsonova won the title in Cleveland, beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final, and this year, the defending champion will be back at the tournament, while last year's finalist didn't sign up for the event.
Competing in a tournament one week before a Grand Slam can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, players can nicely get into the rhythm and warm up for the US Open, but on the other hand, making a run into the final can be exhausting, and we've seen many players lose early the following week after a big result.
Still, plenty of experienced players who tasted some big success have signed up for the tournament, including former world no. 2 and former Indian Wells Open champion Paula Badosa, who has been struggling with injuries recently.
She isn't the only one as the 2017 US Open champion, Sloane Stephens will also compete at the tournament, and some fans who are interested not only in tennis will likely hope that she brings some of her popular outfits.
The entry list also includes names such as Barbora Krejcikova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Anhelina Kalinina, Mayar Sherif, and Katerina Siniakova. They will all compete in Cleveland, making the WTA 250 event an interesting watch for many fans.
