2-time Grand Slam champion Halep crashes out against no. 124 Snigur at US Open

Simona Halep took care of the surprise of the opening day at the 2022 US Open when she lost to world number 124, Daria Snigur.

The 20-years-old Ukrainian got through the qualifying to play in her first Grand Slam main draw. However, she got really unlucky with a draw when she was set to face a 2-time Grand Slam champion and the seventh-seeded Simona Halep.

The experienced Romanian started the match with a lot of nerves as she was missing a lot and soon found herself 0-3 down. Despite getting one break back, she got immediately broken back and eventually lost the first set 2-6.

In the second set, Simona Halep showed why she's a 2-time Grand Slam champion when she dominated the set by winning 24 out of 30 rallies played and prevailing 6-0 in the set.

Yet, she had a slow start also in the third set when she got broken right away and her opponent added another break in the fifth game to lead 5-2. For a second it seemed that Simona Halep will be able to fight back, but she couldn't add another break after making it 4-5 in the third set and eventually lost the match 2-6, 6-0, 4-6.
