The Poland Open, also known as the BNP Paribas Poland Open, is a new WTA 250 event that launched in 2021. It is currently the only Polish WTA-level event on the women’s tour. Since 2022, the competition has been held on hard courts at the Legia Tenis & Golf complex in Warsaw.
The first Poland Open took place at the Arka Tennis Club in Gdynia before the recent move to Warsaw. To mark the launch of the first-ever Poland Open in 2021, a charity match took place between the two top players in Poland. As a result, Iga Swiatek took on Hubert Hurkacz in an exhibition clash.
Despite its short existence on the WTA tour, the Poland Open is building a reputation as a modern and progressive tournament. Beyond the courts, the event is known for hosting further events, competitions, and features to add engagement for fans.
Furthermore, the players hold the Poland Open in high regard, and several leading WTA players have competed in the competition recently. During the one-week event, often held in late July, a 32-player singles competition and 16-team doubles tournament take place.
The first-ever singles winner was Belgian Maryna Zanevska, who defeated Slovakian Kristina Kucova in straight sets in 2021. Following the move to hard courts in 2022, former world number four Caroline Garcia won after she beat Ana Bogdan in the final.
Then, in 2023, home player Swiatek defeated Laura Siegemund in the final. Swiatek became the first-ever Polish player to win the competition after her victory. In the doubles competition, Kazakhstan player Anna Danilina has won the title twice with two different partners. Danilina won the 2021 title alongside Lidziya Marozava before winning again in 2022 with Anna-Lena Friedsam.
