Nick Kyrgios won't be able to compete during the first stop of the 2025 Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS).

Kyrgios finally returned to the tennis courts this year. He played two singles matches, and even though he lost both, the Australian player showed that he still has the level needed to compete.

While that was undoubtedly a positive sign, there were plenty of negative signs as well, mostly tied to Kyrgios' body. Already at the Brisbane International, he admitted that he felt discomfort in his wrist, and at the Australian Open, Kyrgios started struggling with his abdomen.

Admirably, he finished his first-round match against Jacob Fearnely, even though he lost in three sets and appeared to be injured for the vast majority of the match.

After that, Kyrgios' next destination should have been the Davis Cup, but he withdrew from the team competition as his body wasn't ready to compete.

Now, the 29-year-old Australian has announced yet another withdrawal. He was among the players set to compete in the first leg of the 2025 Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS). It will take place from February 14th to 16th at the Centro Panamericano de Tenis in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Kyrgios was drawn into Group A alongside Casper Ruud, Denis Shapovalov, and Adrian Mannarino, but a couple of days before the tournament start, he was forced to announce his withdrawal.

"Hi, Mexican UTS fans. I am really sorry to share with you that I will not be able to compete at UTS Guadalajara this year."

Kyrgios confirmed that his body simply wasn't ready to compete after undergoing further medical exams.

"My latest medical exams have sadly just shown that I won’t have recovered enough from my abdominal injury to be able to compete at UTS in February. I am really frustrated, but I need my body to heal before being able to play matches again."

Instead of Kyrgios, fans in Guadalajara will get to enjoy Fabio Fognini in Group A of the UTS in Guadalajara. There were no changes in Group B. Tomas Machac, Flavio Cobolli, David Goffin, and Jakub Mensik will compete for the two spots in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Kyrgios, on the other hand, will now focus his efforts on getting healthy to be able to compete this year again. He currently appears on the entry list for the 2025 Indian Wells Open. The Australian player used his protected ranking to enter the tournament.

The ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells starts on March 5th, which will now serve as a deadline for the 2022 Wimbledon finalist. He will certainly not want to miss the Sunshine Double.
