Novak Djokovic will care only about two tournaments in 2025, according to former WTA player Andrea Petkovic.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion will start the 2025 season with a cloud of unknowns surrounding him. At 37, Djokovic is not the youngest anymore, which is at the heart of the discussion.

During the 2024 season, he stated that he would focus only on Grand Slams and representing Serbia in 2025, playing an even more restricted schedule than he used to.

However, those plans seemingly changed with the appointment of Andy Murray as his coach. Djokovic signed up for the Brisbane International prior to the Australian Open, and he will even play doubles at that event with Nick Kyrgios.

The Serbian player then also signed up for the Qatar Open in Doha, which isn't a tournament that would be leading up to a Grand Slam, suggesting that he might play a busier schedule again.

Until he steps onto the court or further clarifies his intentions, it won't be clear what exactly Djokovic plans to do in 2025, and that's why two former WTA players speculated about it recently.

Rennae Stubbs and Andrea Petkovic talked about Djokovic during the recent episode of the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, with the former Australian player and Serena Williams' ex-coach asking the question of whether the 37-year-old Serbian can win his 11th title in Melbourne.

"Back to him winning the Australian Open. Obviously we know that's the tournament he plays his best tennis at. He's won that 10 times, which is outrageous! The fact that he's won 10 Australian Open's is just mind boggling. Can he win 11?"

Historically, the Australian Open has been the most successful tournament for Djokovic. He won the title in Melbourne ten times, more than at any other Grand Slam.

But it hasn't been his only successful major. Djokovic is also a seven-time Wimbledon champion, and like at the Australian Open and the US Open, he played 10 finals at Wimbledon as well.

That's why Petkovic thinks that with Djokovic's success at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, he will focus only on those two tournaments in 2025.

"So my prediction for Novak next year is that...he will not give a flying F about any of the tournaments except the Australian Open and Wimbledon."

According to the former German player, Djokovic will also retire once he wins his 25th Grand Slam title. No one has ever reached that number, which is likely one of the reasons why the Serbian keeps playing.

"And he will make a huge push with everything he still got left in that cute 40-year-old body of his. Will put everything into winning one of these, try to get to 25, and then get out."

Although it wouldn't be surprising to see Djokovic retire after winning his 25th major, it is also a bit hard to believe that he would have done so if he had, for example, won the Australian Open at the start of the new season.

At the same time, he wouldn't be the first player to retire shortly after winning the Australian Open, as Ashleigh Barty did it only a few years ago.
