Diego Schwartzman ended his tennis career at the 2025 Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, but it wasn't without one last magical moment.

Schwartzman announced his decision to retire from professional tennis in May last year. Of course, he couldn't choose any other tournament than his home Argentina Open as his retirement event.

In his career, Schwartzman reached the semi-finals at the French Open, he is a two-time US Open quarter-finalist, and probably the most successful tournament of his career was the Argentina Open.

He won the event in 2021, played in the final in 2019 and 2022, and also played in multiple quarter-finals. That's why it was so fitting for him to end his career at the ATP 250 event in Buenos Aires.

Schwartzman maybe wasn't often the tallest man in the room, and probably also not the loudest, but he made stadiums go loud during his best days on the tennis courts. Before stepping onto the courts in Buenos Aires, the Argentinian also penned a letter for the ATP, which was very emotional.

"I have a lot of amazing memories to think about and achievements to celebrate. I had the opportunity to check off many dreams and do more than people thought was possible for me. I have a small body, but it gave the biggest players in our history bad moments."
"I was there because I was good at this sport. Nobody gave me a gift. I earned this. When I was young, I didn't expect to achieve what I did. But during my career, I belonged."

It was clear that Schwartzman would end his tennis career with his head held high despite his recent struggles, but he probably didn't expect how high he would be able to hold it.

In his first-round match, the Argentinian was a heavy underdog against Nicolas Jarry. However, he managed to sensationally beat the Chilean 7-6(10), 4-6, 6-3, to extend his career by at least one more match.

The crowd in Buenos Aires celebrated, sang songs, and enjoyed the last moments of Schwartzman's career.

In the second round, Schwartzman's opponent was Pedro Martinez. The Spaniard beat Damir Dzumhur in the first round, and he was motivated for this match.

Martinez was the better player from the moment the first ball was hit. He quickly established a 3-0 lead, and after adding another break, the Spanish player led already 5-0.

Schwartzman avoided being bageled in his last career match, but he still lost the first set 2-6. The former ATP World No. 8 player couldn't find any responses in the second set either.

After an hour and 19 minutes, Martinez won the match 6-2, 6-2, ending Schwartzman's career. It was a one-sided match, but it wasn't about the score but about the celebration of the Argentinian's career, which officially ended on February 13th, 2025, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
