Carlos Alcaraz didn't compete in the 2025
Davis Cup Qualifiers, and he seems to have clear intentions about the Davis Cup Finals later this year.
Spain, like the vast majority of other countries, had to play two qualifying rounds this year to qualify for the Davis Cup Finals. It was far from smooth sailing for the Spanish team, but they ultimately managed to qualify for the Final 8.
In February, they beat Switzerland 3-1, and in September, they came back from 0-2 down against Denmark to win 3-2 and secure a spot in the finals. Spain's struggles against much weaker tennis nations showed that if they want to consider winning the Davis Cup, they will need help from the current world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz missed both qualifying rounds this year, but it seems that he plans to travel to Bologna in November. The 2025 Davis Cup Finals will be held at the Bologna Fiere from November 18th to 23rd, and Alcaraz wants to represent his country. Spain will play the quarter-finals tie against the fourth-seeded Czech Republic.
Alcaraz shared his intentions with NBA legend Pau Gasol, whom he talked to at the
Laver Cup. The 22-year-old Spaniard stated that he plans to compete in both the
ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals to conclude this season.
"ATP Finals and then the Davis Cup, I want to be in top form to see if we can get it."
Alcaraz explained his love for team competitions after the Laver Cup
Tennis is an individual sport, and that's maybe one of the main reasons why tennis players seem to love team competitions. They enjoy every chance they get to compete alongside teammates, as there are only a few events each year that allow them that.
The Laver Cup is one of them, where players who are usually rivals can become teammates. At the Davis Cup, on the other hand, players get to represent their country and spend time with their countrymen.
Following the loss to Team World at the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco, Alcaraz spoke about the team aspect and how he enjoys being part of a team.
"Well, that's the first reason that I love the Laver Cup, because I have a chance to have a team with the players that, you know, during the year I'm battling against. When we see each other during the tournaments, we are in our own, let's say, with our team, so we are not able to get to know each other. So here I'm able to get them each other as a person off the court, which is great."
"I learn from them how they do the things, how they approach the matches, everything. Being there to support them as well, I think that's great. So, as I say, I love team events. I love team tournaments. I think we live an energy that we are not used to live during the whole year, which for me is a great experience. That's why I love the Laver Cup."
