Beatriz Haddad Maia won't continue her 2025 season, ending it ahead of the China Open.
Haddad Maia didn't enjoy the best season of her tennis career. She was a Top 20 regular in the past three years, but this year, she will end the season outside of the Top 40. She won 16 matches but lost 26 out of 42 she played.
Although it seemed that she finally found some form in recent weeks with a fourth-round appearance at the US Open and a quarter-final at her home event in Sao Paulo, Haddad Maia now announced that she won't continue her season.
Her last tournament was the
WTA 500 event in Seoul, so she started her Asian swing, but won't continue it in Beijing and Wuhan. Her last match was a loss to Ella Seidel. Almost a week after that loss, Haddad Maia announced the end of her season through a social media post.
It seems that she currently isn't dealing with any big injury, but wants to properly rest and recover to forget this season and prepare for the 2026 season, as that might be a much more difficult season for her, considering the Brazilian's current ranking, which is nowhere near what she was used to over the past three years.
"Hey there, everyone, I am posting this to share with you that I am wrapping up my 2025 season a little ahead of schedule so that I can rest my body and mind for a longer period."
"Thank you to all of my sponsors who walk side by side with me on this wonderful, learning-filled journey that is the high-yield sport. Thank you to my family, who have always been and will always be my biggest foundation and strength."
"Thank you to so many others who collaborate directly and indirectly so I can live my dream. Thank you to my team so much for every day, every training, every conversation, every moment. Yet another season together. We are a beautiful definition of a TEAM. No words to thank you."
"Finally, a special thank you to all of you who always accompany me, support me, send energy, love, and affection. Rest assured that I will come back stronge,r and the best is yet to come! We will see you all soon again. With affection, Bia."
Haddad Maia isn't the only player to end her season early
In recent years, players have prioritized rest over pushing their bodies, as they recognize that missing even more time could create additional problems for them. That's why when someone picks up a minor injury towards the end of the season, players tend to prefer ending the season early over rushing.
For example,
Jack Draper ended his 2025 season early, even missing out on a $1.5 million participation fee at the Six Kings Slam.
Elina Svitolina also finished her season early, but her 2025 campaign was much more successful than that of Haddad Maia.
