The
draw for the 2025
Davis Cup Finals has been released, and it certainly boosted the anticipation ahead of the event.
This year, the "World Cup of Tennis" will be played from November 18th to November 23rd.
Italy is the host country and the top seeds, having won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. As such, they didn't have to play the Qualifiers, automatically qualifying for the Final 8.
Since Spain isn't among the seeded countries, there was a chance that Italy, led by
Jannik Sinner, and Spain, led by
Carlos Alcaraz, would meet already in the first tie, but that didn't happen.
The top seeds drew Austria as their first opponents. The Austrian team beat Finland 4-0 in their first-round qualifying tie, and then they bested Hungary in an epic that was decided in the fifth match. Austria currently has only one player inside the Top 100 on the
ATP Tour, so Italy will be huge favorites.
The winners of this tie will take on the winners of the tie between the third-seeded France and Belgium. The Belgian team, with only one player in the Top 50, will be huge underdogs in this tie. However, they proved in the qualifying rounds that they have what it takes to compete with the best. They first beat Chile 3-1 and then stunned the second-seeded Australia 3-2.
France, on the other hand, dominated in this year's Qualifiers. They first beat Brazil 4-0 and then easily outplayed Croatia 3-1. France's chances will depend on which players will be healthy to represent the country at the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8.
France has a huge base with 13 players inside the Top 100, but none of them are in the Top 20, so having the best might prove to be the deciding factor.
Spain, too, will rely on the strength of their line-up. After the team consisting of Pablo Carreno Busta, Jaume Munar, and Pedro Martinez sensationally completed a comeback from 0-2 down against Denmark, the Spanish team captain, David Ferrer, hopes that the world No. 1 player, Carlos Alcaraz, will join them for the Finals.
But the draw was brutal to the Spanish team. They will play against the fourth-seeded Czechia in their quarter-final tie. The Czech team outplayed the USA in the second round of the qualifying and has a really strong team consisting of young, talented players.
The last quarter-final tie will see the second-seeded Germany take on Argentina. Germany was the only country not to lose a match in this year's qualifiers (apart from a dead rubber match between Daniel Masur and Ofek Shimanov, which was played without a proper third set).
The German team beat Israel in the first three matches and then managed to do the same against Japan. Germany's chances will also hugely depend on whether
Alexander Zverev will compete at the event.
