The 2025 Montpellier Open will be the first ATP tournament after the Australian Open, and Sebastian Korda is among those on the entry list.
This year's Montpellier Open, which will run from January 27th to February 2nd, will be the 38th edition of the tournament. Home favorite Yannick Noah won the first iteration of the event, beating Joakim Nystrom in the final.
Richard Gasquet is the most successful player in the tournament's history, having won four titles and finished as the runner-up three times. The tennis legend will retire from professional tennis at this season's French Open.
Unsurprisingly, Gasquet has been given a wild card into the tournament to bid farewell after having so much success. It may be emotional since the 38-year-old cried during his final appearance at the Paris Masters in October.
Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, Gael Monfils, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are other high-profile champions at the tournament. Monfils is on the entry list for this year's tournament after an impressive 2024 season.
Sebastian Korda could be the top seed at the Montpellier Open. Although he is on the entry list, the American's participation will depend on his ability to overcome a long-term injury.
Korda sustained an elbow injury during a second-round loss to Tomas Machac at the US Open. Last year's Citi Open champion received treatment for the injury throughout the match and completed the contest, but the issue was severe.
The 24-year-old announced in October that he had successfully undergone surgery for it. At that stage, Korda seemed confident about returning to the court before the 2024 season ended at the Vienna Open or Paris Masters.
Unfortunately, Korda withdrew from both tournaments, and the off-season has not been enough time to heal the injury. He also pulled out of the Brisbane International, and his participation in the Australian Open is not guaranteed.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is also on the Montpellier Open entry list. All of the Canadian's ATP titles have come on indoor hardcourts, showing how dangerous he is in those conditions. The 24-year-old will be one of the favorites if he competes in France.
Auger-Aliassime's 2025 season began impressively at the United Cup. He won both his singles matches in the tournament against the US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz and the former Cincinnati Open champion Borna Coric.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is another dangerous name on the entry list. The 21-year-old undoubtedly possesses the best serve in tennis right now, evidenced by his victory in three tiebreaks against Nick Kyrgios in Brisbane.
Although he is dangerous in any conditions, Mpetshi Perricard's serve could be particularly deadly on the indoor hard courts in Montpellier. The other players in the draw will almost certainly want to avoid playing him.
The defending champion, Alexander Bublik, is also set to return to the Montpellier Open. He recovered from a set down against Borna Coric in the final to reign supreme at last year's iteration of the event.
The entry list also includes Flavio Cobolli, David Goffin, Tallon Griekspoor, Lorenzo Sonego, and Adrian Mannarino.
