Mirra Andreeva's humorous and honest 2025 Indian Wells Open winner's speech included saying sorry to coach Conchita Martinez for her actions on the morning of the final.

Andreeva played an incredible final two sets to defeat Aryna Sabalenka in the final in Indian Wells. After losing the opener 2-6, she rebounded spectacularly to win a second WTA 1000 title.

The 17-year-old also secured back-to-back titles at WTA 1000 level. She won the 2025 Dubai Championships, a run that, like her tournament in Indian Wells, included victories against Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek.

Despite being so young, Andreeva has an engaging personality. That was shown when she thanked herself in the Indian Wells final ceremony, something she also did after claiming the Dubai Championships.

Another funny moment during the trophy ceremony was when she thanked her team, including her mother, agent, and coach Martinez. The teenager mentioned that her agent made a special effort to attend the final.

"Thanks to my mum. Thanks to my mum, Antoine, Conchita, everyone who was here with me. Juan, my agent, flew especially from Miami to see the final. So, I really appreciate it."

Andreeva then addressed Martinez specifically. She admitted that her coach had a challenging time with her on the morning of the final because of how nervous she was before for such a massive occasion.

"Conchita, of course, it can be tough sometimes, and today was another exception. I know I was, as you like to say, a little brat in the morning. That's because I was super nervous, so I'm sorry for that. I don't think I would be here without all of you, so thank you for being by my side."

Those comments were humorous, but they also showed maturity. Despite being just 17, Andreeva is aware of how difficult she can sometimes be as a teenager and appreciates the work Martinez does to support her.

Martinez began coaching Andreeva in April 2024. Their partnership had been working well in the months before February, but Andreeva's sudden breakthrough since the Dubai Championships has surprised many.

That breakthrough is undoubtedly due to the work she and Martinez did in the previous months. Before their collaboration began, Andreeva had never won a WTA title or reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam.

Andreeva's maiden major semifinal was at the 2024 French Open. That included a win against Sabalenka in the quarterfinal, although the current world No. 1 struggled with an illness in that contest.

The young star's maiden title came at the 2024 Iasi Open the following month. She led Elina Avanesyan 4-0 in the deciding set in the final before her opponent retired to confirm a first trophy on the WTA Tour.

Andreeva progressed to her first WTA 500 final at the 2024 Ningbo Open in October. After finishing as the runner-up to Daria Kasatkina, she cried in the trophy ceremony, which led to Kasatkina giving her a hug.

The Dubai Championships and Indian Wells Open title winner has come a long way since that moment, and her development is one of the most exciting things to follow in tennis.
