Juan Carlos Ferrero might need to make a difficult decision in the future if Jannik Sinner shows interest in his services.
It seemed that Ferrero and Carlos Alcaraz were a duo that couldn't be split. Alcaraz called the 45-year-old his "second father," and their partnership appeared to be working exceptionally. That was until they shockingly split ahead of the 2026 season.
There wasn't much known about their split at the time, but in his statement, Ferrero hinted that he wasn't the one who made the decision. He confirmed that when he broke his silence in an interview with MARCA.
Ferrero spoke about their split, saying he would want to remain as part of the world No. 1's team. During the interview, he was also asked about the prospect of coaching Jannik Sinner in the future. Although far from reality at the moment, that partnership might be on the cards once Darren Cahill leaves Sinner's team, something he planned to do already at the end of the 2025 season, but changed his mind.
Ferrero stated that it's something he would need to think about if such an offer became a reality. However, he didn't immediately reject the idea, suggesting he might be open to it in the future.
"It's something I'd have to think about. He is an extraordinary player, but as I said before, it's not the time to think about something like that and say yes or no. Now is the time to get through this difficult period because I still think about Carlos every day, and it's not the time to think about others."
Ferrero also spoke about whether his style would suit Sinner more than it did Alcaraz. The Spanish coach was known for wanting his protégé to focus more on his career, while the six-time Grand Slam champion wanted a more balanced life outside of the sport.
Although Sinner's approach to the sport might be more on the same page as Ferrero's, the coach said he adapted to Alcaraz and didn't want to talk about his potential future with Sinner too much, showing how much the split from Alcaraz impacted him.
"I've adapted my style as much as I could for Carlos. I'm not considering other options at all because I need two or three months of peace and quiet and for the pain to subside. After that, if other possibilities arise, we'll weigh them up. In the end, it's been almost eight years nonstop and a lot of time away from home. Being home now is a blessing."
