Carlos Alcaraz's former coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, broke his silence and spoke about their split, which shocked the tennis world.
Alcaraz and Ferrero took over the headlines during this year's off-season, as they stunned everyone by parting ways. No one saw their split coming, but not only the fact that it happened, but also how it happened. According to reports, the two disagreed over Ferrero's contract for the 2026 season.
The 45-year-old coach confirmed that it was the case in an interview with MARCA. Already in his statement after parting ways with Alcaraz, Ferrero said he would have liked to continue, and he reiterated that during the interview with the Spanish publication as well.
"Everything seemed to be going well. It's true that when a year ends, certain things need to be reviewed regarding contracts. And as with any new contract, looking ahead to the following year, there were certain things we disagreed on. As with all contracts, one side pulls in one direction and the other in another."
"Carlos's camp thinks about what's best for him, and mine thinks about what's best for me. There were certain issues on which both parties disagreed. Perhaps they could have been resolved if we had sat down to talk, but in the end, we didn't, and we decided not to continue."
"That's really what happened. There are points I won't go into detail about, but we disagreed on them, and ultimately, we went our separate ways."
"It's been a very good year, and when it ended in Turin, it's true that we all had the idea that we were going to continue. Then what happened, happened, and we went our separate ways, but initially the idea was to continue, and that's why I told him in the statement."

Ferrero rejects money as the reason behind the Alcaraz split

One of the main reasons for the split, cited by outlets in Spain, was the financial part of the contract. However, Ferrero made it very clear that money isn't something that would ever stand between him and a supremely talented player like Alcaraz.
"The financial aspect has been brought up. And I've shown from a very young age that it wasn't the most important thing for me. There's been talk that I asked for more, and it's true that they've always been very generous with a very high percentage for those early years when I was so involved with it. And I appreciate that. In the end, I've tried to make it clear that the financial issue wasn't one of the problems, nor was it the reason I was in this project."
Despite ending his partnership with Alcaraz only a few days ago, Ferrero has already received numerous offers from other players on the ATP Tour. However, he made it clear that he doesn't want to coach another player at the moment.
"Yes, I have received some offers, but it's not the right time. I want to be at peace, and I have feelings. It's impossible for me to take on someone else right now because my mind is still there, and it would be very complicated. Right now, it would be impossible."
