Carlos Alcaraz's collection of tattoos has become more extensive after he got one in recognition of his efforts at the 2025 US Open.
The 22-year-old overtook Jannik Sinner as the ATP world No. 1 after comprehensively defeating his rival at Flushing Meadows. Alcaraz admitted he played brilliantly in that contest, not giving Sinner a chance.
When Alcaraz won his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, he got the date of his final win against Casper Ruud tattooed. Although understandable, it was not something related to New York that would be immediately obvious to non-tennis fans.
The Spaniard's tattoos after his maiden Wimbledon and French Open triumphs were more direct references to the tournaments or cities they were held in. He got a strawberry for Wimbledon and the Eiffel Tower for the French Open.
Alcaraz has compensated for not clearly referencing New York after his first US Open title by getting two iconic landmarks from the city. These are the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, both very suitable choices.
The Australian Open is the only Grand Slam left for Alcaraz to win despite his young age. When that inevitably happens at some stage over the coming years, it will be fascinating to see what he gets as a tattoo in recognition of that achievement.
2025's ATP year-end No. 1 enjoys getting tattoos, a unique way to celebrate winning the most important events in tennis for the first time. He deserves to have fun after succeeding on the biggest stages.

Carlos Alcaraz split with his long-time coach and mentor, Juan Carlos Ferrero

Former French Open winner Juan Carlos Ferrero coached Carlos Alcaraz for over six years. They formed a very close bond, with the six-time Grand Slam champion repeatedly saying how important Ferrero was to him.
Alcaraz remained highly successful in 2025, winning his second French Open and US Open titles, and finishing as the year-end No. 1, pipping Jannik Sinner to that position after a fiercely contested battle for the spot.
That meant Alcaraz's announcement of his split from Ferrero a few days ago caused widespread astonishment. No clear explanation was provided for the shocking move in the men's own words.
Although Alcaraz paid a heartfelt tribute to Ferrero for everything he has done for him, it will not stop the speculation about why the parting occurred, especially since Ferrero said he would have liked to continue.
If the 22-year-old or someone close to him instigated the split, it would be the opposite of what many expected, since Ferrero had previously talked about not wanting to coach Alcaraz for his entire career.
Samuel Lopez will remain as Alcaraz's coach, regardless of whether he hires a direct replacement for Ferrero. Lopez joined him at the start of 2025, and it is clear the young star trusts him, ensuring some continuity.
Darren Cahill was going to leave Jannik Sinner's team until he reversed that decision. The Australian coach remaining and Ferrero departing is a twist no tennis fan saw coming.
