The 2026 Hong Kong Open, scheduled from January 5th to 11th, will be one of the year's first ATP tournaments, and its prize money and ranking points have been released.
Several excellent players are in the Hong Kong Open draw, seeking to make a strong start to 2026. Lorenzo Musetti, who reached multiple finals last year, is the No. 1 seed at the event.
The Italian will be joined by the likes of Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, and Alexander Bublik, who enjoyed a career-best 2026 season. 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic is a high-profile non-seeded player in the draw.
Although players are already motivated by trying to play well and build momentum for the 2026 Australian Open, the prize money and ranking points will also be an incentive, and men in the draw have a chance to fight for the highest percentage possible of the rewards on offer.
The 2026 Hong Kong Open champion will collect $106,460 and 250 points. Alexandre Muller is the defending champion, beating Kei Nishikori in a high-profile final, since the Japanese player's reaching that stage after his severe injury issues was incredible.
Finishing as the 2026 runner-up in Hong Kong will be enough for players to secure $62,115 and 165 points. The tournament was not played from 2003 to 2023, but Boris Becker and Jim Courier were among the runner-ups before that.
Reaching the semifinals of this year's Hong Kong Open will be enough for players to earn $36,520 and 100 points. That would be enough for several men in the draw to rise up the rankings.
Musetti, Cameron Norrie, Fabian Marozsan, and Arthur Fils were the defeated quarterfinalists in 2025. The players who replicate that achievement this year will walk away from the tournament with $21,155 and 50 points.
$12,285 and 25 points will be handed to players who are eliminated in the round of 16. For opening round losers, no ranking points are on offer, but $7,510 will be added to their bank accounts.
The new season began with the 2026 United Cup on January 2nd. There have already been several dramatic moments from that team event, including Coco Gauff coming to Team USA's rescue in their opening tie.
On January 5th, WTA world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will start her season at the 2026 Brisbane International. She enters that event after playing a controversial Battle of the Sexes match against Nick Kyrgios.
Sabalenka was defeated 3-6, 3-6 by Kyrgios despite the Australian looking unfit and the four-time Grand Slam women's singles champion having a larger court to hit into. Many thought it damaged the WTA's reputation.
The 2026 ASB Classic, a WTA tournament also starting on January 5th, has Venus Williams in the draw. She received a wild card into the 250-level event, which will continue the 45-year-old's remarkable career.
Williams was also handed a wild card for the 2026 Australian Open, a tournament where she has finished as runner-up twice.
