The 2026
Adelaide International will be the second
WTA 500 event of the season, held from January 12th to 17th.
While the ATP players have to wait until the second week of February for the first ATP 500 tournament, the WTA players have two WTA 500 events in the opening two weeks of the season. The first one is played in Brisbane, and the second WTA 500 tournament of the year is played in Adelaide.
The Memorial Drive Tennis Centre will once again welcome some of the best tennis players in the world. The event was first held in 2020, but in 2026 it will already be the ninth tournament held in Adelaide, as in 2022 and 2023 there were two tournaments held both years.
That means there have been plenty of different champions over the years. Ashleigh Barty and
Madison Keys are the only two players who have managed to win more than one Adelaide International trophy. The list of champions also includes the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. But those two players won't compete in Adelaide this year.
On the other hand, two-time winner and defending champion Madison Keys will play in Adelaide once again. There will be a chance for last year's final rematch, as finalist
Jessica Pegula will make her way to Adelaide as well.
The chances are that there won't be a new champion crowned in Adelaide, as there are two more former winners in the draw. The 2023 winner,
Belinda Bencic, and the 2024 champion,
Jelena Ostapenko, will both compete at the 2026 Adelaide International. That means all the last there winners will play at the WTA 500 event in Adelaide.
Daria Kasatkina was the player beaten by Bencic in the 2023 final and by Ostapenko in the 2024 final, so she is a two-time finalist. In 2026, she didn't have sufficient ranking to qualify for the main draw, but as a player
representing Australia, she might receive a wild card.
Only players ranked in the Top 30 on the WTA Tour qualified for the main draw of the Adelaide International, but despite that, there will still be two teenage phenoms in the draw.
Mirra Andreeva and
Victoria Mboko are both set to compete at the event in 2026.
The
entry list also includes names such as
Ekaterina Alexandrova,
Clara Tauson, and
Linda Noskova, who will all want to challenge for the title in Adelaide, but given the strength of the field, virtually anyone can win.
