The last event held in Australia before the first Grand Slam of the season will once again be the
Adelaide International, and in 2026, it will welcome a world-class field of players.
Although the Adelaide International is one of the newest additions to the
ATP calendar, it's becoming a staple of the Australian tennis summer, the last tournament before the start of the Australian Open.
The Adelaide International was first held in 2020, and even though it will be only six years since then, this year's men's tournament will already be its eighth edition, and that's despite the event not being held in 2021. The reason is simple. In 2022 and 2023, Adelaide hosted two men's and two women's events.
In the past, the likes of Andrey Rublev, Gael Monfils, and
Novak Djokovic lifted the trophy in Adelaide, and the 24-time Grand Slam champion will return to the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre once again.
In 2026, the Adelaide International will run from January 12th to 17th, with Djokovic as the top seed. The Serbian legend won't be the only former champion in the draw, as the 2024 winner
Jiri Lehecka will compete as well.
On the other hand, the
2025 champion, Felix Auger-Aliassime, won't defend his title in 2026. Arthur Rinderknech and
Jack Draper both played the final in Adelaide before, and they will try to make that one final step towards the trophy in 2026.
The
entry list also features one name that will make the event incredibly exciting from a fan perspective. 19-year-old
Joao Fonseca is a walking crowd magnet, and the tournament organizers will be incredibly happy to secure his participation for the 2026 edition of the event.
When it comes to players who might be able to challenge for the title, the likes of
Tommy Paul,
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and
Stefanos Tsitsipas will certainly believe they have what it takes to win the trophy in Adelaide.
The Adelaide International isn't only an important event for tennis players to sharpen their skills ahead of the Australian Open, but also for the tourism in South Australia, which is why South Australian Minister for Tourism Hon Zoe Bettison was excited about the line-up for this year's tournament, especially since the tournament organizers managed to secure Djokovic once again.
"Spectators will be treated to world-class tennis in Adelaide this January with more than 20,000 fans having already secured their tickets to date. Welcoming Novak Djokovic and other world-class tennis stars to Adelaide reinforces our reputation as a premier destination for major international sporting events."
"As we continue to see the Adelaide International grow, it delivers an experience that serves players, fans, and the broader tennis community while demonstrating why South Australia is officially the nation’s Best Event State."
