Felix Auger-Aliassime's name is back in the winners' column after he was able to beat Sebastian Korda at the 2025 Adelaide International.
In 2022, it seemed that Auger-Aliassime was on his way to becoming one of the best players on the ATP Tour. He won six titles that year and ended it as the World No. 6.
In the following year, however, he won only one title, and in 2024, he completed the season without lifting a single trophy. He changed that already in the second week of the 2025 season.
The Canadian started the season at the United Cup, and even though his country was able to win the tie against Croatia, despite Auger-Aliassime's win over Taylor Fritz, they couldn't beat the United States, who were later crowned champions.
After that, the 24-year-old moved to Adelaide, where he competed at the ATP 250 event. He had a great week, beating Arthur Cazaux, Marcos Giron, and Tommy Paul to reach the final.
After beating two US players in a row and a third one at the United Cup, Auger-Aliassime played the final match in Adelaide against his fourth opponent from the United States this year. He played a total of six matches so far.
Korda had a good run, too, but he was helped by Thanasi Kokkinakis' withdrawal. Thanks to that, he had to play only two matches to reach the final, beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Miomir Kecmanovic.
In the final, Korda could have had a better start, as he had four break points in the first three games, but he didn't use any of those chances. Auger-Aliassime helped him to one of those break points with a double fault, but he quickly corrected it with a winner.
2-3 down, Korda got under pressure, and when facing three consecutive break points, he made an unforced error as Auger-Aliassime broke first in the match. He won 11 consecutive points in the set.
Leading 5-2 and 40-15 on his opponent's serve, the Canadian had two set points, but he made a couple of unforced errors, and Korda's ace forced one more game.
But in that game, the American player made three unforced errors, and Auger-Aliassime added an ace to win the opening set 6-3. He wanted to follow up on that result in the second set, but he couldn't.
The Canadian didn't use two break points at 2-2, and then a few games later, down 3-4, he made two double faults in one game, in which Korda was able to break, later winning the set 6-3.
But Auger-Aliassime had an incredible third set, and his opponent didn't stand a chance. The Canadian hit three aces, he hit his first serve 82% of the time, and he won 16 out of 17 points on his serve.
There was nothing Korda could do about that, especially since he struggled on his second serve. As a result, Auger-Aliassime won the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, lifting the 2025 Adelaide International trophy, his first since 2023. After the match, he was obviously very happy.
"Seb, we’ve known each other for a while, we always push each other. I arrived 10 days ago and I have enjoyed every single day. Most importantly, thank you to my team, my group, my dad. Thank you for everything."
"Thank you also to my family back home, my fiancée and her family. It’s the best support you can have as a player. I enjoy working everyday with you all. Let’s push to have a great year."
