The draw for the 2025 Six Kings Slam is set, and the seeding for the event might come as a surprise to some fans.
The Six Kings Slam was first held in 2024. The six kings were Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune. Although Sinner and Alcaraz were the two highest-ranked players in the world at the time, the two players seeded for the semi-finals were Djokovic and Nadal.
The two are among the biggest legends of the sport, and having them play the semi-finals made sense. This year, the organizers needed to assign two byes once again, and this time, there were multiple ways they could have gone.
The three obvious players who could be seeded were Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic. Alcaraz is a reigning ATP world No. 1 player, Djokovic is obviously a 24-time Grand Slam champion and a legend of the sport, while Sinner is the current world No. 2 and the only Six Kings Slam champion.
As the current world No. 1 and the man with the second-most Grand Slam titles, Alcaraz was chosen as the top seed. The event will start on October 15th, when the quarter-final matches will be played, which means the Spaniard will play his first match on October 16th. He is also sure to play two matches at the event.
There will be one day of rest on October 17th to comply with the ATP's rules about exhibition events, which can't be held over three consecutive days. After the day of rest, Alcaraz will appear either in a match for third place or in the final match.
His first opponent will be the winner of the first quarter-final match between Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz. It will be a match between the current world No. 3 and No. 4. The two have met a total of 14 times before, with Fritz leading the H2H 9-5.
With the top half of the draw set, the second seed had to be decided, and the tournament organizers chose Djokovic. That means Sinner will compete in the other quarter-final, taking on Stefanos Tsitsipas for a spot in a semi-final against Djokovic. Tsitsipas leads the H2H against Sinner 6-3, but he has struggled with injuries recently.
The winners of the semi-final matches will then play in the final on October 18th, following a third-round match between the two losers from the semi-finals. That means both Djokovic and Alcaraz will appear on the court at least twice.
All players competing in Riyadh should receive $1.5 million for participation, with the champion of the event collecting $6 million. That's record prize money for a tennis event. Last year, Sinner won the event, and he can double his overall prize money won at the Six Kings Slam this year.
