Alex de Minaur was forced to withdraw from the 2025 Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) in Hong Kong.
De Minaur last competed at the Shanghai Masters, where he lost in the quarter-finals to Daniil Medvedev. Before starting the European indoor hard court part of the season, the Australian player wanted to stay in Asia for some time.
He planned to compete at the UTS in Hong Kong, where he would have been the only Top 10 ATP player. However, after practicing in Hong Kong, De Minaur and his team made the decision to withdraw from the tournament.
The 26-year-old announced his withdrawal from the tournament, which starts on October 14th, in a statement, citing a hip injury as the reason.
"Hi guys, Alex de Minaur here. I’m extremely disappointed at having to withdraw from UTS here in Hong Kong. It’s an event that I was looking forward to playing in front of some amazing fans. I’ve always wanted to come here to Hong Kong, so I tried everything I could to play this tournament."
"However, it now seems I haven’t physically recovered quickly enough, as I was feeling the pain even before working on the practice court. We flew in, we tried to practice, I just have too much pain in my hip."
"After discussing with my team, I have had no choice but to withdraw and meet my doctors for a proper assessment. So I’m wishing the rest of the competitors an incredible tournament. I’m sure the fans are really going to enjoy it."
"I have been amazed by the excellent venue for the Hong Kong leg of the tour and the outstanding player lineup, which is sure to deliver an incredibly exciting tournament for everyone. I hope everyone thoroughly enjoys the competition, and I look forward to hopefully returning to Hong Kong soon to put on a great show for you all in the future."

Jenson Brooksby will replace Alex de Minaur for the 2025 UTS Hong Kong

While De Minaur's fans will be disappointed to hear about his withdrawal, fans of Jenson Brooksby will be delighted to hear that the American player will be the one to replace De Minaur in Hong Kong. He will join a strong field of players, which the tournament founder, Patrick Mouratoglou, thinks will thrill the crowd in Hong Kong.
"Whilst it’s unfortunate that Alex has been forced to withdraw from the event, we understand that injuries are an inevitable part of this physically and mentally demanding sport, particularly towards the end of a long season."
"We are delighted to welcome an excellent player like Jenson Brooksby to the field at such short notice. Together with the other seven top players, each with their unique styles and personalities, the matches over the next two days promise to be thrilling and exciting showdowns."
