The 2025
Japan Championships will be held in Osaka from October 12th to 19th, and the
draw includes the best Japanese player,
Naomi Osaka.
Osaka, Japan, is a very fitting city to host the Japan Women's Open, also known as the Japan Championships. Naomi Osaka is the best Japanese tennis player of all time, and she will headline the draw of the 14th edition of this tournament as well.
Over the years, the Japan Women's Open was held at the Ariake Tennis Forest Park in Tokyo and at the Regional Park Tennis Stadium in Hiroshima, but for the longest time, Osaka's Utsubo Tennis Center has hosted the event, and that won't change in 2025 either.
In the previous 13 editions, there was only one Japanese champion, and it wasn't Naomi Osaka. In 2019, Nao Hibino and Misaki Doi delighted the crowd in Hiroshima with an all-Japanese final, with Hibino ultimately winning the trophy.
This year, the chances of a Japanese player winning the title will be high. Naomi Osaka will be a huge favorite to win the title. Before delighting the crowd in Japan, she will first need to disappoint some part of the fans, as she'll play against home wild card Wakana Sonobe. The winner of this match will play against the winner of the match between Suzan Lamens and Emiliana Arango.
But Osaka isn't the only Grand Slam champion in the draw.
Bianca Andreescu will compete as well, taking on Viktorija Golubic in the first round. The winner of this match will then await the fifth-seeded Marie Bouzkova or wild card Ena Shibahara.
Linda Noskova might be the second seed in Osaka, but her draw has been brutal. She will play against British No. 3,
Katie Boulter, in the first round of the tournament. The winner will then meet Sorana Cirstea or Moyuka Uchijima, who is another wild card from Japan.
Leylah Fernandez is one of the Grand Slam finalists in the draw. She is the fourth seed and will play against Hailey Baptiste in the first round of the tournament. If she succeeds, she can be challenged by Alycia Parks in the second round if the American beats a qualifier.
Alexandra Eala is one of the players who will try to have a deep run in Osaka. She will start against a qualifier in the first round.
Maria Sakkari, on the other hand, will try to find her old form. The Greek player will play against Ashlyn Krueger in the first round.
