The 2025
European Open in Brussels will be played from October 13th to 19th, and the
prize money and ranking points have been unveiled.
From its maiden iteration in 2016 to 2024, the European Open was held in Antwerp at the Lotto Arena. It proved successful enough for the
ATP Tour to retain it as an ATP 250 tournament during the indoor hard-court swing.
The organizers probably helped their cause by not canceling the event during the COVID-19 pandemic, as happened at many other venues in 2020 and 2021, and in 2022 for Chinese tournaments.
Jannik Sinner, whose
unusual habit involving water bottles was revealed at the 2025 China Open, Andy Murray, and Richard Gasquet, who ended his lengthy career at the 2025 French Open, are among the former European Open winners.
This year's entry list for the maiden edition held at the Brussels Expo includes
Frances Tiafoe,
Felix Auger-Aliassime,
Lorenzo Musetti, and teenage star
Joao Fonseca, who skipped the 2025 Shanghai Masters to prepare for the indoor hard court swing.
Those involved with the Belgian tournament have committed €706,850 in prize money. As always, that will be distributed across the different rounds, with the highest percentage going to the champion.
The 2025 European champion will receive €107,490 and 250 points. Roberto Bautista Agut is the defending champion after the Spanish veteran had a surprising run to the title, upsetting Jiri Lehecka in the final.
Lehecka is on the entry list for this year's tournament. If he finishes as the runner-up again, it would be enough to earn him €62,720 and 165 points. The Czech will try to go a step further in conditions that suit his game.
The rewards remain decent for the players who are beaten in the semifinals. Those two men will have €36,870 added to their bank accounts and 100 points to potentially boost their ranking position.
Former champion Auger-Aliassime, Alex de Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was
announced for the 2025 Six Kings Slam, and Zizou Bergs were 2024's defeated quarterfinalists. €21,365 and 50 points will be given to the players who replicate that achievement this year.
The Top four seeds receive byes, guaranteeing them at least €12,405 and 25 points. Those who fail to win their opening-round matches will not get any ranking points but can still collect €7,580.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the favorites for any tournament they enter because of their domination of men's tennis since 2024 began. Events without them can be challenging to predict, and that is the case for the 2025 European Open.
Despite his heroics last year, 37-year-old Bautista Agut does not start as the pre-tournament favorite. Musetti is the only Top 10 player on the entry list, but he has lost his last five finals, most recently at the 2025 Chengdu Open.
That brought the Italian to tears.
Auger-Aliassime is an excellent indoor hard court player, having won six of his seven ATP titles in those conditions. The Canadian can still qualify for the 2025 ATP Finals.
