The draw for the 2025 ATP Finals has been made, promising an exciting week of tennis in Turin, Italy.
Once again, the ATP Finals will be held in Turin. It will be the fifth consecutive event held in the city, following the previous 12 editions in London, Great Britain. So far, the most successful player in Turin has been Novak Djokovic, who won the titles in 2022 and 2023.
The first edition of the ATP Finals in Turin was won by Alexander Zverev, and the last one by home player Jannik Sinner. He will be the defending champion this year, but comes to Turin as the second seed, as Carlos Alcaraz topped this year's ATP Race.
That means the two couldn't meet in the round-robin stage this year. The groups were named after two legends, Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg, and Alcaraz leads the Jimmy Connors Group, while Sinner is the highest-ranked player in the Bjorn Borg Group.
Novak Djokovic is not only the most successful player in the editions of the ATP Finals held in Turin, but also in the event as a whole. He is a seven-time champion, and both Alcaraz and Sinner certainly wanted to avoid the 38-year-old legend, even though he has recently struggled to beat them.
Eventually, Djokovic landed in Alcaraz's group, which means there will be a 10th edition of this rivalry if the Serbian chooses to play at the ATP Finals. He recently said that his participation is still uncertain despite the chief of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, claiming the Serbian has already confirmed his participation.
Joining Alcaraz and Djokovic in the Jimmy Connors Group will be Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, who are complete opposites in style. Fritz loves to play aggressively and use his serve as his primary weapon, while De Minaur relies on his excellent movement.
With Djokovic landing in Alcaraz's group, the third-seeded Alexander Zverev was naturally selected for the other group. Sinner and Zverev will meet for the 10th time, with the Italian winning the last four meetings.
Ben Shelton hasn't played a lot since his injury at the US Open, but he will try to make the best out of his debut at the ATP Finals. The last player to play in this group is not yet known, as the race is still on. That will change next year, as the last ATP 250 events of the season won't count towards the race.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti are the two players fighting for that spot, even though only one of them is fighting literally. Auger-Aliassime shockingly withdrew from the Moselle Open, meaning he now relies on Musetti not winning the Athens Open if he wants to play the ATP Finals.
