Iga Swiatek was left irritated by a fan's behavior during her 2025 WTA Finals match against Amanda Anisimova and wanted him removed from the arena.
The pressure was on during Swiatek's battle against Anisimova. Both women knew that the winner would join Elena Rybakina, who qualified as the group winner without losing a match, in the semifinals.
Swiatek and Anisimova both played excellently in the first set. This year's Wimbledon winner kept her level higher when it mattered most and took the opener 7-6 after winning the tiebreak 7-3.
The WTA world No. 2 did well to refocus after being bothered by a heckler who shouted between first and second serve in the Pole's service games. She was seen saying "cicho" to the man, which means quiet in Polish.
Despite that request, the fan remained loud and disruptive. Eventually, Swiatek could not take it anymore and spoke to the umpire about it in one of the changeovers during the opening set.
Swiatek asked the umpire to remove the spectator, whom she believed was drunk, for disrupting the game, but was left disappointed when the official said she would try to make him quieter before kicking him out.
"He's clearly drunk. Can you kick him out? He's disturbing the game. He's disturbing the game, he's shouting between first and second serve."
Despite being frustrated, Swiatek did not pursue the matter further. That was wise, since she needed all her focus, resilience, and skill to win the opening set against her huge-hitting opponent.
However, Swiatek could not sustain her level in the final two sets despite the fan no longer being disruptive. After clinging on to her serve several times amid relentless pressure, Anisimova got the match's first break in the tenth game of the second set to take it 6-4.
The American dominated from that moment. Swiatek held from 15-40 down early in the decider, but Anisimova ultimately broke twice to triumph 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. It was her second consecutive win over the six-time Grand Slam champion, also beating her at the 2025 US Open.
It is a remarkable turnaround after she lost 0-6, 0-6 against Swiatek in the Wimbledon final. The victory against the former world No. 1 at the WTA Finals was also her 12th successive in matches decided in the third set.

Swiatek has still enjoyed a season to be proud of

After losing in the 2025 French Open semifinal to Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek had not reached a final in 12 months and slipped to No. 8 in the rankings. Some questioned whether she should fire Wim Fissette, her coach since last October.
Swiatek unexpectedly rebounded spectacularly on grass, her weakest surface in previous seasons. The 24-year-old cried after losing the 2025 Bad Homburg final to Jessica Pegula, only to go on to win Wimbledon.
Further titles followed at the 2025 Cincinnati Open and the 2025 Korea Open. The four-time French Open champion's level dropped in her final few tournaments, but Swiatek will now rest before preparing for the 2026 Australian Open, the only Grand Slam she has never won.
