The 2025 Adelaide International is one of the final two ATP tournaments before the Australian Open begins.
Despite being an ATP 250-level event, the Adelaide International always attracts many quality players. That is demonstrated by the caliber of the champions since the tournament began in 2020.
Andrey Rublev won the first iteration of the men's singles in 2020. Novak Djokovic is the most high-profile winner. He claimed the first of two iterations of the tournament held in 2022 due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unfortunately for the organizers, Djokovic will not be competing at this year's Adelaide International. The Serbian's pre-Australian Open tournament was at the Brisbane International, losing in the quarterfinal to Reilly Opelka.
Djokovic also entered the men's doubles in Brisbane with Nick Kyrgios. They won a dramatic first-round match together but were eliminated in the following match despite leading 8-6 in the deciding set tiebreak.
Thanasi Kokkinakis, Sonwoo Kwon, and Jiri Lechecka are the other former Adelaide International champions. Lehecka defeated Jack Draper in a dramatic final last year to seal the title in front of a packed crowd.
The ATP prize money is slightly lower than the WTA's at the Adelaide International because the women's event is 500-level. However, the ATP players will still compete for the largest part of a $766,290 prize money pot.
This year's Adelaide International champion in the men's singles will receive $103,525. They will also have 250 ranking points added to their total, which would make a significant difference to any of the players in the draw.
The runner-up will earn $60,350 and 165 ranking points for being the second-best player at the 2025 Adelaide International. Sebastian Korda and Roberto Bautista Agut are among the losing finalists at the Adelaide International.
Although not as lucrative as reaching the final, getting as far as the semifinals can still make a significant difference to players. This is especially true for the lower-ranked men in the draw.
The players who lose in the semifinals will be given 100 ranking points and $35,480. Korda and Alexander Bublik were last year's defeated semifinalists at the Adelaide International.
Those in the draw must get past two rounds to reach the quarterfinal of the 2025 Adelaide International. $20,555 and 50 ranking points are on offer for the four players who fall in the quarterfinal.
Tommy Paul, Korda, Tomas Machac, and Lehecka are the top four seeded players. They receive a bye into the round of 16, which means they are guaranteed at least 20 ranking points and $11,935 at the 2025 Adelaide International.
No ranking points are given to players who lose in the opening round of ATP 250 tournaments. Nonetheless, those men will still collect $7,295 for qualifying for the main draw.
The Adelaide International is always an entertaining tournament for fans to enjoy before the Australian Open. This year's iteration is unlikely to be any different, and it should result in some great tennis.
