The ATP 250 draw for the 2025 Adelaide International has been released, and fans in Australia should look forward to an interesting week of action.
Many top players chose to use the last chance to prepare for the Australian Open, which is why they signed up for the 2025 Adelaide International, running from January 6th until 11th.
There are both the ATP and the WTA events held simultaneously in Adelaide, making it an exciting week of tennis for everyone involved. While the women's event is a WTA 500 tournament, the men's tournament is of an ATP 250 category.
Still, that doesn't mean that the draw is weak since players want to prepare for the season's opening Grand Slam, which is why they sign up for this tournament. In 2024, Jack Draper lost in the final to an inspired Jiri Lehecka, and while the Brit won't compete this year, the Czech player should return.
Although he appears in the draw, it's uncertain whether Lehecka will really play in Adelaide, as he will compete in the Brisbane International final, and after his success at that event, the Czech player might choose to skip the Adelaide International and travel directly to Melbourne.
If he chooses to play in Adelaide, Lehecka will have a first-round bye as the fourth seed. In the second round of the tournament, the Czech player would await the winner of the match between a qualifier and home wild card Li Tu.
The top seed in Adelaide is Tommy Paul, who will play against either Roman Safiullin or one of the qualifiers in the second round. The possible quarter-final opponent also looks interesting for Paul.
The seventh-seeded Brandon Nakashima will play against a qualifier, while Jaume Munar will play against former Top 10 player David Goffin. The winner of this section will play against the winner of Paul's section in the quarter-final.
Sebastian Korda is the seed in Adelaide. The American player will await a very challenging second-round match. He will play against the winner of an all-Spanish meeting between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Roberto Bautista Agut.
Tomas Machac is the third seed, and he will play against Arthur Cazaux or a qualifier in the second round. All of these possible matchups are interesting, but there is one match that will likely draw the most fans.
It will happen already in the first round of the tournament. The fifth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime will take on his Davis Cup teammate, Denis Shapovalov, in a first-round blockbuster in Adelaide.
