According to reports ATP is nearing a decision to strip Wimbledon and all UK events of the rankings points they award by the end of the week.

The move has been floated around in media for a few weeks as the ATP and WTA met in Madrid last week to discuss the course of action following the decision to ban all Russian and Belarussian players from events in the United Kingdom. According to reports, the meeting continued in Rome this week with ATP nearing a decision to take a hardline stance towards the event.

The points stripping decision could have hard repercussions for the event as it would incentivize players to skip the legendary event considering the risk of playing on grass. The only incentive player's would have is the prestige and the prize money which again is good enough for the majority of them. Both the ATP and WTA criticized the move as well as several notable players.

The UK Government backed the decision of the Lawn Tennis Association and Wimbledon. The WTA is according to reports not close to following the ATP in that decision at the moment. To be continued!
